Problems with UK:Web Group

I’m wriitng this post as a warning to other potential customers to UK:Web group, formally UkWebHosting. After using the company for the last couple of years I paid to renew my domain name in December when reminded by email. UK:Web Group took my money but didn’t renew my domain so my website disappeared of the internet in the first week of January. I must have emailed UK:Web group dozens of times, I tried opening support tickets too, but got no reply whatsoever.

I later found some other people in a similar situation and learned that Lee Curtis, the owner/manager of UKWebGroup had attempted to sell UKWebGroup in November and since around that time had not been providing any un-automated services like renewing domain names or replying to support queries, while still accepting money for these services.

All this information used to appear in the form of a topic in a forum upon searching Google for “UKWeb group”, but that forum seems to have deleted the topic, probably for legal reasons, so I’ve set up a group (aptly named UK:Web Group) on Google groups with a copy of the transcript from that forum.

I just hope the potential customers/victims find the information before giving them any more money.

For those missing web space or domain names, I would strongly advise you to contact Heart Internet for information on your account as they have taken over the customer database that UK:Web once had.

No reply yet. They did help me out many times so I hold out hope.

I found one of there websites http://ukwebmastery.com/ is still running.

Maybe they are finally able to face the mess they made and start to clean it up.

On that point I wish them well.

I hear you all. Today, I recently received this email from UK WEB:

    *******
    Dear XXX

As you probably know, UK WEB has ceased trading. You deserve some answers.

It is with great regret that this occurred. Despite best efforts early in the year, we failed to serve our customers. Let alone “Legendary Service” that we once strived for.

The remains of the hosting business was transfered to Heart Internet who will honour all of the hosting and most of domain accounts and expiry dates. Heart Internet are a very trust worthy, well funded and successful company and we know that they will do their best to help you.

If you are one of the customers who have domain names with GoDaddy – please send an email to ukwebcomplaints@live.com

We will transfer each and every domain to it’s rightful owner. Whilst I can’t guarantee a same day reply due to the volume of emails – I will work on them every evening to help out all of you as best that I can.

To those that held a hosting account during 2007, you will feel strongly let down and with good cause. You had become accustomed to a high level of service that we could not sustain. We worked hard to repair the damage that we bought into – but in the end personal and financial circumstances meant that it fell into disrepair.

To be fair to the previous owners, they must have encountered the same and we naively believed that we could rebuild and grow. We didn’t have the finances to weather the storms and we collapsed under the weight of it.

Once again, you have our deepest apologises for the appalling services these last few months and wish you the very best with Heart Internet, or your new provider.

    *******

Might be hogwash. I’ve not got my domain back. Ill report back to let you all know.

I was looking at other comments and one lists the registrations for some domains are registered to the following address

    WebWorld Holdings
    PO BOX 4184
    Copacabana
    NSW
    2251
    AU

So Simon, I mean Lee, would seem to be mistaken as this is a suburb next to MacMasters Beach NSW Australia, so either Lee lives there or it is a damn long way to go to collect mail :)

Lee is in New South Wales Australia, he is a one man show, hence the great service you have all received

I know because I have seen him there, he has a computer sales job in Sydney

I dare say Simon is Lee!

Lee Curtis does not live in Australia, he’s located in Stoke-on-Trent.

    All

If I was you I would not give Lee Curtis a cent, he is a con man and is using your money to fund his life.

FYI, He lives in MacMasters Beach NSW Australia, his mobile phone is +61 405 638 390, I am sure he would love to hear from you :)

He moved to Australia and after screwing over company that sponsored him moved in with another guys wife.

Most of the positive things written in his reviews were by him, he has servers in Germany where he sends them from

He is a real pillar of the community, not!

He is irresponsible, dishonest and a liar, I would cancel and move your services ASAP,you will never get what you paid for.

I came home tonight and found my UkWebhosting site is now also dead. This means all my email addresses are broken as well, you are not alone. I’ve emailed them and asked in no uncertain terms what is going on.

That said after reading your articles it looks very much like I will have no joy. I really am angry and annoyed with the so called legendary service they aren’t giving anymore.

3 years or so with them for me.
