A great SIMBL/Safari plugin which adds a new option menu and preference pane to Safari with loads of features such as opening links to a new window in a new tab instead, changing the look and feel of Safari, a new sidebar which has thumbnail pictures of your tabs, the ability to change Safari’s user agent setting for specific domains and many, many more.

Usb webcam drivers for many old webcams. Used with iChatUSBCam enables you to use a usb webcam on iChat without a firewire device. Check the list of supported webcams before you get excited, as many newer webcams and quite a few older ones are not supported.

Firefox

Arguably the best alternative to Internet Explorer and Safari. “Geeks” seem to recomend it.

I’d say Firefox is better than IE6, but I haven’t managed to get my hands on IE7. Firefox had many of the new features of IE7 well before IE7, such as tabs which in my view are a browsing revolution on Windows . Firefox seems to be faster than IE, and more well thought out. I think all Windows users should definately give it a try keeping in mind that it may take a while to get used to not using IE.

It’s my opinion that Firefox for macs is not currently better than Safari even though it does have some simple features I miss when using Safari such as the notification popup when you’re about to close a windows with more than one tab open. Generally Firefox for macs feels chunky, bloated, and slow, but it’s definitely worth installing as an alternative browser for trying to view pages that don’t display properly in Safari.

Cyberduck

Cyberduck is the best free ftp client I’ve found. It allows you see and ftp hidden files which is a plus, but it’s user interface can be a bit awkward as you need to drag and drop your files from finder into cyberduck. It is free though, so you can’t really complain.

Adium X

A free multi protocol instant messaging client for OS X. Adium is the best out there for customisability and user friendliness. It supports MSN, AIM/.mac, yahoo, Jabber/Gtalk, bonjour, and more. It lacks voice and video communication for the moment, which is it’s only major fault. Otherwise adium is amazing, you have to try it to understand. I use adium as my default IM client, opening ichat for specific video conversations, or Skype for voice calls.
